50 Cent's departure from Interscope Records may have ended on a bad note. Although Dr. Dre and Eminemare still on good terms with the Queens native, label head Jimmy Iovine doesn't feel the same way. Iovine admitted that he no longer likes 50, the MC shared in an interview with Power 99 radio station's Cosmic Kev.
"The last communication I had with Jimmy, we was actually talking and Jimmy tells me he doesn’t like me," Fif said."For whatever reasons — the miscommunications or his interpretation of why I'm actually doing things that I'm doing [is why he doesn't like me]."
Fif thought it best that he leave the label he called home for over a decade due to their handling of his music. After the label delayed his fifth album more than once, he officially jumped ship in February.
He recalled being so done with the situation that regardless of Iovine's alleged misperception, he wanted his walking papers. "Just get me off the actual label before the s--- goes bad, because I’m not getting the actual response I want out of the material that I’m releasing with them, and it’s to the point that I’m not even trying to put the right thing out," 50 explained. "I'm just sitting here, 'Put that one. Get that one.' You can’t get a song with Em and Adam Levine? What can you get?' They didn't get anything on Kendrick [Lamar] until after the record ["We Up"] sold."
Going independent has so far been the best route for the 38-year-old, he said. After announcing the Interscope break up, Fif got busy dropping new material including the Dre-produced track "Smoke," and he's satisfied with the fan response. "I'm better by myself," he declared. "It's not speculation, it's factual."
However, if Iovine didn't express disdain towards Fif, they would've remained friends in spite of the end of their business relationship. The tension reportedly arose after Fif launched SMS Audio as a potential competitor to the Beats by Dre juggernaut. "I admire Jimmy, I looked up to him, any success that I've had has been with him," the G-Unit mogul confessed. "I'm prejudice, I don't like people who don't like me. It's not like I could say 'I don't like you too'… 'cause I didn't [feel that way]. Now, I'll take the same position. I'm not the person to sit there and say 'I really like you' when you don't [like me]."
His focus is still on the music, though. Fif's long-awaited next studio album, Animal Ambition, is scheduled for release June 3, featuring appearances from Trey Songz, Prodigy, Styles P, Yo Gotti, Jadakiss and more.
