Th e Setup menu in the Nikon D3000 consists
of a series of basic camera settings
not directly related to taking pictures.
Th ey cover things like the LCD brightness,
the camera’s Firmware version, the default
Language, and the image File number sequence.
You’ll be able to set your camera’s
Time zone and date, Format memory card,
set Viewfi nder options, and modify several
other functions.
The icon for the Setup menu looks
like a wrench. When you press the Menu
button, it’s the third menu down the
menu tree on the left. See FIG 1for a
look at the Setup menu location. Make
sure the camera’s Mode dial is not set
to GUIDE or you won’t be able to use
the older-style Setup menu. Please do
not confuse this menu with the Guide
Mode’s Setup menu.
In this chapter, we’ll examine each
setting in detail.
Let’s start with the first
menu option, Reset setup options.
Reset Setup Options
Th is is a simple function you might use if
you sell your camera or if you just want to
partially start over with the Setup menu
options. It basically just resets the Setup
menu to factory default values. It does not
reset all of them, however.
Not affected by Reset setup options
are the Video mode, Time zone and date,
Language, and Active folder settings.
Here are the steps to cause a Setup menu
reset (see FIG 2):
1. Press the Menu button and scroll to the
Setup menu.
2. Select Reset setup options, and then
scroll to the right.
3. Select Yes or No from the menu.
4. Press the OK button and the reset will
occur.
